Camellia

Camellia’s rich history can be traced back over 5000 years to roots in China and Japan. The oil has played an important role in Geishas’ beauty routines for centuries and is still a staple ingredient for natural beauty potions in Asia today.  There are over 20,000 varieties of this famed plant! While green tea is made from the leaves of camellia sinensis, our golden yellow oil is gently extracted from the seeds of camellia oleifera. Also known as tea seed oil, it shares many powerful antioxidant compounds with green tea in addition to nourishing fats, vitamins, and minerals.

Camellia’s high antioxidant content offers the skin much-needed protection from free radicals and environmental aggressors, therefore reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Additionally, this light and easily assimilated oil is a significant source of Vitamin E and monounsaturated fatty acids, making it deeply nourishing, calming, and healing. Camellia oil’s astringent and anti-inflammatory properties offer great relief for inflamed skin and increase the wound healing and cell regenerating process.

Shea Butter

The sacred shea tree has been sharing its various gifts with countless communities in its native Africa for thousands of years. Its adventurous history is said to go back all the way to Cleopatra’s reign when the iconic ruler supposedly never traveled without her jars of this decadent butter. Besides being part of Cleopatra’s famous, luxury beauty routine, and long before it became a starring ingredient in many of today’s nourishing, natural skin care products, this special fruit was treasured and well-utilized by African cultures in numerous ways.

The shea tree's wood, for example, is said to have been used to make beautiful caskets for respected leaders, while its fruit and butter offered an essential source of nourishment and medicine for entire tribes. Its appreciation and significance throughout Africa continues today, where shea butter is rightly known as “women's gold” as its production provides employment and income to women in 19 African nations.

The long, intensive process of bringing this fruit to its final buttery state requires much patience.  Shea trees start to bear their first fruits only after a decade of growth, but once they start, they continue sharing their nourishing treasures with us for up to 200 years. After the fruits have been harvested, the nuts are removed, boiled, and extracted from their shells by hand. The containing seeds are crushed, roasted, and then beaten with water, which helps to release their famously rich fats that form into a butter.

This precious, smooth, and nutritive gift provides deep nourishment, leaving skin plump, soft, and protected. Its high content of healthy, anti-inflammatory fats are quickly absorbed, locking in the necessary moisture to ensure skin stays hydrated throughout the day. The antioxidant-rich phenolic compounds offer a great healing and soothing remedy for many inflammatory conditions, from sunburns to rashes, dermatitis, and rosacea. Shea butter’s dose of vitamins A and E is said to promote cell renewal and slow the signs of premature aging by reducing the exposure of oxidative stress in the skin. Shea butter is said to also increase collagen production, restoring the skin’s natural elasticity and firmness.

Cacao

If I have a signature as a formulator, the glory of this bean is certainly a part of it. I believe in cacao as more than just a special sweet treat or even as an ingredient to lend a hunger-inducing aroma to all but one formula in our core facial collection.

Exceptionally high in antioxidants, raw cacao blocks free radicals, protecting skin against damage to collagen and elastin while promoting and renewing skin cell tissue. Cacao contains omega 6 fatty acids and raw enzymes, both of which help in cellular repair and rejuvenation. Topical use increases blood flow to the skin, reducing inflammation and redness, slowing the visible aging process, and supporting healthy moisture content.

Sourcing
Nearly all of the cacao on the planet is produced for consumption in the massive food and fragrance industries, where the priority is strictly to maximize aromas and flavors with aggressive toasting processes. Unfortunately, the excessive heat used to achieve the characteristic chocolate scent you are accustomed to greatly diminishes the nutritional value of this precious food ingredient. It was an uphill battle to find producers who are instead dedicated to the gentle extraction and distillation of aromatic raw materials that preserve and honor the bean’s high antioxidant content.

I am committed to ever-increasing my quality standard, taking every challenge as an opportunity to dig deeper into our core values. After years searching the world, testing cacao samples from a zillion vendors, navigating ingredient adulteration and dilution and the underbelly of labeling loopholes that plague our industry, I can say without hesitation we have earned access to the best of the best with each form of cacao we incorporate into our treats. From our rich and succulent cacao butter to our exclusive, freshly-made raw oleoresin, to our nutrient-dense powdered bean, our cacao is a point of pride and total joy.

Fair Trade
Historically, cacao has been and still is a significant source of tropical deforestation. At the same time, it is a crop on which many conservationists and natural resource managers base their hopes for an agriculture industry that not only provides a livelihood for tropical farmers but also helps to conserve biodiversity in the tropical landscape. Growing cacao under a canopy enhances the soil, protects it from erosion, provides non-cacao products to the farmer and a refuge for an array of animal groups like birds, insects, small mammals, and reptiles. The leaf litter provided by a shade canopy is particularly important for the life cycle of the insects that pollinate the cacao blossoms.

Farmers that choose to grow cacao using sustainable methods rely on organic or premium markets for the higher prices they must charge for making a commitment to increasing biodiversity and embracing environmentally-friendly agriculture. Although chocolate is a huge ($70+ billion annually) global business, only about 6-8 percent of this revenue makes its way back to the cocoa farmers, many of whom run small family operations. Labor abuse is rife in many cocoa regions, and reports of farmers enslaving thousands of child workers have sparked widespread criticism of the industry.

Labor and environmental issues have inspired the formation of several organizations and associations of wholesalers, retailers, and producers whose members are committed to growing cacao sustainably, providing fair wages and opportunities to economically disadvantaged artisans and farmers worldwide. We are committed to supporting this vital effort by choosing makers that produce organically and ethically under Fair Trade guidelines.

“Chocolate is the answer. Who cares what the question is.”

Marula

One of Africa’s ancient botanical treasures, the marula tree has been sharing its gifts with local communities for centuries. Indigenous to South Africa and Madagascar, the marula tree belongs to the same plant family as cashew, mango, and pistachio. Marula fruit has been a staple in African cuisine for a long time, where it’s transformed into delicious juices, jams, and even alcoholic beverages, such as the famous South African cream liquor, Amarula.

Besides its yummy taste, the yellow fruit offers numerous skin-beneficial nutrients and is said to contain a whopping 4 times as much vitamin C as an orange. The tree’s generosity doesn’t stop at the fruit; the nutty, golden marula oil has been widely used for its medicinal benefits and has been part of countless beauty rituals. Boasting an incredibly high content of antioxidants, including skin-boosting Vitamins C and E, marula oil provides a protective shield against damaging effects of the environment while simultaneously helping to renew healthy skin cells. Further, it increases healthy collagen production and slows down the aging process. The antibacterial properties of the antioxidants and tocopherols assist in fighting off harmful pathogens, naturally speeding up the healing process of wounds and scars. Its anti-inflammatory essential fatty acid content not only helps to deeply hydrate and nourish the skin, but also to reduce redness and improve elasticity.

Baobab

Known as the “tree of life” in its stunningly beautiful native Africa, one can only imagine the significant role the majestic Baobab tree has played for thousands of years. Throughout the average lifespan of over one thousand years (!!), each tree generously shares its fruits and water, as well as provides shelter and traditional healing remedies for local communities and wildlife.

Baobab’s nourishing fruits have been valued in Africa for centuries and boast of immune boosting vitamins, antioxidants, and strengthening minerals. The baobab fruit has six times as much vitamin C as an orange, 50% more calcium than spinach, and its antioxidant activity is four times that of a kiwi. It is an excellent source of vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B6, calcium, iron, zinc, potassium, magnesium, manganese, and phosphorus, and the seeds are packed with protein.

Baobab’s clear, golden yellow oil is extracted in a single cold pressing process, allowing this lightly nutty liquid to retain its unusually rich nutritional profile. Its powerful antioxidants provide the skin protection against free radical damage, therefore slowing down the skin’s visible aging process. Celebrated for its extremely high content of Vitamin C, the oil helps to maintain skin’s collagen production, encourages skin cell regeneration, improves elasticity and firmness, and accelerates the healing process of wounds and scars. Essential fatty-acids deeply moisturize the skin, effectively treating and healing inflammatory conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, and acne.

Blue Tansy

I am often asked what my favorite ingredient is to work with, and while it can feel a bit like choosing between children, blue tansy wins without question. This magical oil is the single most powerful ingredient I use and it is the one plant I go to when it's time to get serious. My own highly reactive skin changed dramatically after discovering its benefits over a decade ago.

Of all the active compounds found in blue tansy, chamazulene (a mighty anti-oxidant) and a-bisabolol are known powerhouses famous for their anti-histaminic, anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, and anti-microbial properties. Effective for treating a plethora of conditions ranging from eczema to sun damage, blue tansy acts on a cellular level, relieving heat to reduce skin inflammation. Additionally, a-bisabolol compounds act as a catalyst, helping our other active ingredients, such as our helichrysum, to better penetrate the skin and offer its highest possible efficacy.

Applied topically, blue tansy oil works magic to clear rashes and allergic reactions, psoriasis, rosacea, and all forms of acne. With its unparalleled ability to bring peace to troubled complexions, it is like a meditation and spa vacation for your skin. Equally captivating is blue tansy’s extensive contribution to the long-studied emotional benefits that come with aromatherapy and alternative medicine practices.

High resonance blue tansy is called on to help combat depression, reduce anxiety, heal sleep disorders and insomnia, and soften the feeling of being out of control. Used therapeutically, blue tansy releases the stuck emotions of anger and allows for more flow in our lives. We are able to let go, feel less overwhelmed and more at one with ourselves.

Sourcing

Blue tansy is one of the most difficult to procure ingredients I incorporate into my formulas, and one of the most often adulterated. While a quick Google search will turn up many outlets that offer “blue tansy” for sale, lab testing will verify that many readily available sources are cut with chamomile and colored with dyes - none of this listed in the ingredients labeling, and is often unbeknownst to even those selling or developing products with it.

Much goes on in the steps between the harvesting farms, multiple middlemen and brokers, and the final consumer - particularly with the most expensive exotic oils, such as this one. Adulteration and misrepresentation is a troubling and prolific part of this industry, and one we dedicate vast efforts and resources to overcome. We have been working tirelessly over the years to secure our relationships with incredible farms who grow and harvest this powerful plant for us at the highest level of potency and efficacy and who can ensure each season that we are delivered only the purest, safest, and most effective and authentic extraction of true blue tansy (tanacetum annuum) on the planet.

Lavender

One of the most studied, recognized, and versatile flowers, lavender’s rich history as a medicinal, culinary, and spiritual plant dates back thousands of years. Native to the Mediterranean region of Europe, Romans were said to have used the holy flower to scent their baths, beds, clothes, and even hair, a fact that is reflected in the Latin root of the herb’s name “lavare” meaning “to wash.” Besides Romans, many ancient cultures and healers around the world have used lavender in medicinal treatments and religious ceremonies.

In the Middle Ages, it was believed that spouses who placed sprigs of lavender between their bedsheets would never argue. Tibetan monks and Ayurvedic healers are said to have used these purple beauties to treat depression and calm the mind, while in European folk medicine, lavender tea was prescribed to relieve insomnia and tension. It’s been proven in modern medicine that the scent of lavender increases alpha waves in the area of the brain responsible for relaxation, helping to soothe common anxieties and allowing for better sleep at night.

Besides its incredible aromatic and sedative properties, lavender boasts of skin healing benefits that make it a time-tested first aid treatment. True lavender essential oil is one of the most beneficial remedies for inflammatory conditions such as acne, dermatitis, and eczema. Its superior anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria, as well as regulate the over-excretion of sebum, increasing the healing process of scars at the same time. As a powerful antiseptic and pain reliever, lavender makes an invaluable remedy for burns, wounds, and all types of skin trauma, effectively regenerating scar tissue and the skin overall, leaving it healthy, glowing, and blemish-free.

Geranium Rose

When I think of geranium flowers, I’m transported to visions of Europe, where windows and balconies of historical buildings are overflowing with these bright, happy flowers. However, the variety that we use for our treats, Pelargonium Graveolens, is part of the Pelargonium genus and has no resemblance to the common geranium. The difference is significant as Pelargonium Graveolens has superior skin healing properties that are unique to this variety.

Native to southern Africa, this aromatic evergreen shrub has been used for centuries by tribal healers, and to this day, is a popular remedy among herbal practitioners to treat everything from a sore throat to digestive issues and skin inflammation.

Geranium rose’s antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects are thought to come from gallic acid and other phenols, which are antioxidant compounds that play a protective and healing role in skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and acne. Further, the high antioxidant content of this precious, rosy-scented oil protects against the effects of damaging free radicals on the skin cells. Its astringent and cicatrisant properties not only tone the skin, but effectively reduce the appearance of stretch marks, scars, and fine lines.

Myrrh

Although there are many species of Myrrh, ours (Commiphora myrrha) is native to the Arabian Peninsula, Somalia, Yemen, and parts of Ethiopia. Highly prized by many ancient civilizations including the Greeks, Egyptians, Romans, and Chinese, this precious resin was primarily used as an ingredient in incense, perfumes, for embalming, and religious ceremonies. Its rich, warm, balsamic scent and medicinal properties have been cherished by many for centuries.

To harvest the sap, myrrh trees are tapped several times a year and left to secrete its resin for about a week to ten days. Once dried and hardened, it is collected and aged even further before being sorted, graded, and sold. The resin is then either ground into a fine powder or distilled into an essential oil.

To this day, it is still one of the most widely used essential oils in aromatherapy thanks to its superior antiseptic, antimicrobial, vulnerary, and anti-fungal properties, which make myrrh the perfect natural remedy for preventing and treating wounds from infections, as well as fighting off harmful bacteria. When applied topically, its potent antioxidants help to reduce puffy or swollen skin while alleviating discomfort. A powerful antiseptic and anti-inflammatory, myrrh tones the skin, helps reduce the appearance of scars, and offers relief for skin inflammations such as acne and eczema.

Frankincense

Boswellia Serrate is a tree native to India that produces special compounds found to have strong anti-inflammatory effects. Among the valuable Boswellia tree extracts that researchers have identified, several stand out as being most beneficial, including terpenes and Boswellic acids, which protect healthy cells.

Frankincense has the ability to strengthen skin and improve its tone, elasticity, and defense mechanisms against bacteria or blemishes, as well as to protect the skin's appearance as it matures. It may help tone and lift skin, reduce the severity of scars and acne, and heal wounds. It is also considered beneficial for fading stretch marks, surgery scars, marks associated with pregnancy, and healing dry and cracked skin. Studies suggest that it’s the pentacyclic triterpene (natural, steroid-like) structure of frankincense oil that contributes to its soothing effect on irritated skin and its ability to reduce redness and skin irritation.

It’s also believed that the beautifully aromatic oil transmits messages to the limbic system of the brain, which is known to influence the nervous system. When inhaled, frankincense has been shown to reduce heart rate and high blood pressure, and lessen the symptoms of anxiety and chronic stress with its calming, grounding scent. This natural sleep aid helps open breathing passages, allowing you to ease into a gentle sleep.

Vanilla

There are not many aromas that evoke the instant sensation of desire and comfort, like that of vanilla. Whether the star of the hunger-inducing scent of freshly baked cookies or the seductive fragrance of your favorite perfume, vanilla is treasured by many. The sweet smell of vanilla has been shown to be a highly effective antidepressant, mood enhancer, and health booster due to a component called vanillin hydroxybenzaldehydem. Soothing and harmonizing, vanilla has been shown in studies to help comfort, stabilize, and induce feelings of relaxation.

This sacred spice has been used in ritual offerings and as medicine and perfume by the Aztecs. This is where the irresistible and hopelessly addicting blend of vanilla and chocolate was born, as the Aztecs flavored their cacao-based drink with this prized, tropical bean.

Cuttings of this ancient orchid were eventually taken to Africa by the French, where now 80% of the world’s natural vanilla is produced. It generally takes three to five years for the vanilla plant to produce any blossoms. Not only does each flower require hand pollination, but it takes many additional months following harvest for curing to occur. Vanilla is one of the most labor-intensive of our ingredients to produce and is now the second most expensive spice in the world (following saffron).

Highly sedative, vanilla helps to reduce skin inflammation and its powerful antibacterial components aid in clearing skin infections. Rich in skin-nourishing vitamins and minerals, vanilla naturally reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Its high content of antioxidants helps protect the skin from environmental damage, ensuring an even skin tone.

Sourcing note:
Unfortunately, today less than one percent of “vanilla” you find in food or fragrance comes from the vanilla flower itself (yes you read correctly – not even one percent), rather from synthetic reproductions. Our organic vanilla CO2 extract boasts an impressive 26% vanillin content, the component which gives it its rich, natural aroma. The manufacturing process of a CO2 extract involves none of the heat or moisture associated with steam distillation. The result is a deep and gentle extract, free from any chemical residue. Ours is a genuinely spectacular product made strictly from Madagascar beans. We are incredibly selective with each of our ingredients, but especially so when it comes to the standard of our difficult-to-obtain vanilla. With extremely limited stock available, we invest at a premium cost to ensure we can always maintain our obsessive quality commitment. Our same maker provides us with our fresh ground vanilla bean powder, equally expensive, and exceedingly delicious. It’s my favorite bin in the kitchen to lean into for a big breath of heaven mid-day!

Schisandra Berry

Schisandra has been regarded and treasured by the Chinese Empire as a superior herb for its unparalleled powers to protect health and prolong life. A woody vine full of fruits and fragrant flowers, it is native to the moist, temperate forests of northern China, Korea, Japan, and the Russian Far East. Schisandra is known as “wu-wei-zi,” the Chinese name for “five flavor berry,” which refers to the five flavors and corresponding elements of traditional Chinese medicine (sweet/earth, sour/wood, bitter/fire, salty/water, and pungent/metal). This unique characteristic makes Schisandra one of the fundamental herbs in Chinese Medicine and is even today highly regarded for its healing powers. For centuries it has been used as a harmonizing tonic, treating diseases of the lungs, liver, kidneys, and heart. It wasn’t until the 1960’s that it finally gained recognition as an adaptogenic herb, thanks to a number of studies which showed significant evidence of its superior, stress-protective effects and its power to increase physical stamina.

Thanks to its content of potent antioxidants, these bright red, peppercorn-sized berries support healthy cellular function and stabilize cell membranes, successfully preventing and protecting against environmental damage. Schisandra is a must for mature and sun damaged skin and its anti-inflammatory and sedative powers offer relief for hyper-reactive, stressed, and sensitive skin.

Helichrysum

When you learn Helichrysum comes from the Greek “Helios,” meaning the sun, and “chrysos,” signifying gold, you are right to assume this must be a magical herb. Helichrysum has been appreciated for its powerful healing benefits for centuries. Some sources even suggest it was offered to Greek Gods.

Native to the Mediterranean region in Europe, Helichrysum has been a staple in medicine thanks to its powerful anti-inflammatory properties and high antioxidant content. Once picked, this beautiful flower retains its distinctively vibrant yellow color without fading or withering, which explains why it’s also referred to by the names “Immortelle” or “Everlasting.”

The “everlasting” traits of Helichrysum are exactly why I utilize this powerful flower. Helichrysum’s unique chemical compounds, such as curcumene, di-ketones, and neryl-acetate make this herb a superior skincare treatment that offers unparalleled anti-inflammatory and regenerative powers. Helichrysum stimulates the production of healthy skin cells, combats metabolic cellular aging, and therefore effectively reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks, and scars. This wonder plant is also an effective remedy in cases of burned or sun-damaged skin thanks to its potent, pain-relieving abilities and anti-inflammatory properties. Additionally, the antifungal and antimicrobial effects of this “sun gold” oil are said to offer protection from various skin irritations, including rashes and other infections.

Sourcing
Did you know that it takes over 2,200 pounds of plant material to produce only 2.2 lb of this precious oil? This makes Helichrysum one of the most expensive and labor-intensive herbs to procure, and as an unfortunate result comes with a history of adulteration. We ensure that we only source our organic oil in the most reliable way possible: directly from the manufacturer. Ours is a family-run company located in the South of France, known for their unparalleled ethics and quality.

Limonene

* Limonene is not an isolated ingredient we add to our formulas, rather it is a naturally occurring, non-synthetic component within our pure essential oils.

Limonene is a compound found in the essential oils of many plants such as lemon, lime, lemongrass, neroli, grapefruit, tangerine, peppermint, rose, sage, fennel, and geranium. Limonene is responsible for the sweet, lemon-like, pungent aroma we associate with citrus fruit.

Besides being a powerful antioxidant, limonene works as a penetration enhancer. When used in association with other natural, skin-friendly ingredients, we are able to enjoy the maximum benefits of each.

Schisandra Berry

Schisandra Sphenanthera Fruit Extract

*Helichrysum

*Helichrysum Angustifolium Flower Oil

Learn more about each ingredient and why we love it on our ingredients page.

Don't worry! The Blue Cocoon can melt or change consistency when exposed to heat at or surpassing body temperature, including in transit on its journey to you.

Our results-first formulation process means that we leave out any pore-clogging waxes, stabilizers, and fillers that traditionally maintain a solid balm format, while packing IN only the most extraordinary skin-food goodness.

This unique, concentrated formula is designed to melt on touch, transforming upon the skin into a hydrating, anti-inflammatory fluid that tenderly envelops you in the most decadent azule calm.

The Blue Cocoon may be enjoyed in any state from liquid to solid. Should you wish to reset your jar to its smooth balmy state at any time, here’s what to do:

• Screw the lid on nice and tight and place the jar in a bowl of very hot water. I like to pour myself a cup of tea, and with the rest of the water in the kettle, fill your bowl.

• Note: The goal is to fully re-melt the entirety of the jar to a uniform fluid. This takes just a couple of minutes.

• Place the still-warm jar gently into the coolest part of your refrigerator (the back) overnight where it will reset to a solid.

• Let it return to room temperature, or feel free to keep chilled during the hottest months for an extra cool and soothing treat (a must for tired eyes!).

The Blue Cocoon is my number one universal recommendation.

We've seen the most extraordinary results in our clients with rosacea, allergic dermatitis, eczema, and all types of inflammation. For troubled skin, this is like medicine.

In healthy complexions, The Blue Cocoon performs as the world's best facial oil in a pretty blue balm costume, replacing your daily moisturizer and delivering softness and glow like none other.

Yes! On most days I use both, layering or blending together for the ultimate nutritive cocktail.

I let The Youth Dew lead for daytime and The Blue Cocoon for the evening, adjusting ratios of both to suit my skin’s evolving needs each day.

The Youth Dew is wonderful for:
•Graceful aging protection
•Balancing oil production
•Loading up on antioxidants and vitamins

The Blue Cocoon is my first choice for:
•Redness
•Inflammation like eczema, acne, or rosacea
•Discomfort, allergies, or skin trauma

Both The Blue Cocoon and The Youth Dew are stars all on their own. Together, their impact is amplified, making this duo a staple in my personal ritual

The Blue Cocoon can replace all other serums, creams, lotions, or oils - or can be layered together or with other favorites.

Individual needs vary greatly, and change with the seasons both inside and around us. For personalized guidance, connect with us at care@maylindstrom.com

The Blue Cocoon’s hyper-fresh, minimally processed ingredients are pure skin food.

Impeccably sourced plant oils provide essential nourishment that is beneficial for all complexions. Oils of the highest quality help to:
•Dissolve existing stagnation
•Reduce breakouts
•Restore glow
•Balance dull and congested skin

Essential fatty acids (EFAs) offer oily and acne-prone skin much-needed hydration and protection. If the skin is stripped of oils through genetics, lifestyle, or aggressive/incompatible product use, the body will overproduce its own oils to compensate for its loss. In skin with a damaged barrier, this can lead to further breakouts and irritation.

The Blue Cocoon will replenish the skin with EFAs, locking moisture in. Once balance is restored, the sebaceous glands will regulate, setting you on the path to a clearer, healthier complexion.

Of the abundance of active compounds found in blue tansy, chamazulene (a mighty antioxidant) and a-bisabolol are known powerhouses famous for their anti-histaminic, anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, and anti-microbial properties.

Effective for treating a plethora of conditions ranging from eczema to sun damage, blue tansy acts on a cellular level, relieving heat to reduce skin inflammation. Additionally, a-bisabolol compounds work as a catalyst, helping our other active ingredients, such as our helichrysum, to better penetrate the skin and ensure its highest possible efficacy.

Applied topically, blue tansy oil works to calm rashes and allergic reactions, psoriasis, rosacea, and all forms of acne. With its unparalleled ability to bring relief to troubled complexions, it is like a meditation and spa vacation for your skin.

Equally captivating is blue tansy’s extensive contribution to aromatherapy and alternative medicine practices. Blue tansy is called on to help combat depression, reduce anxiety, heal sleep disorders and insomnia, and soften the feeling of being out of control. Used therapeutically, blue tansy releases the stuck emotions of anger and allows for more flow in our lives. We are able to let go, feel less overwhelmed and more at one with ourselves.

In short-ish, blue tansy is one of my single favorite ingredients of all time. It is undeniably beautiful in color, smells incredible, feels resonant in the body, and contributes phenomenally to the skin.

We do not utilize any artificial coloring, or even natural dyes, in our process. The Blue Cocoon's remarkable color occurs as a result of the distillation process of the most incredible blue tansy flowers on the planet.

As the natural chamazulene content comes purely from the plant alone, differences between each harvest - and the resulting small batches - are to be expected and embraced.

Fresh jars can vary from pale robin's egg blue, to blue-grey or blue-green, to a more true lake blue. In cool weather or air conditioned rooms, the balm will be more solid and pale in color and a bit softer in scent. In warmer weather or in heated rooms, as The Blue Cocoon softens (or even liquefies) its formula will appear darker and more fragrant. All variations contain the same incredible active compounds that makes this formula so very special.

The scent of The Blue Cocoon... it is soooo soothing and unique. It's quite different from the rest of the collection, and entirely addicting. We would describe it almost like a blend of soft, buttery cacao touched by the coolness of mint, the sweet roundness of fresh apple, chamomile in springtime, and a touch of grounding and recentering sage. It contains none of these things, and entrances us with its intangible and mysterious nature. A client once described The Blue Cocoon as "spicy snow", which seems ambiguous, but somehow makes complete sense as you inhale and feel both warmed and cooled at once.

Yes! The Blue Cocoon is well-loved by our dermatologic and esthetician community, as well as by so many of you who incorporate acids, retinoids, and other powerful skin treatments into your care.

Given the powerful impact of these formulas and the deeply individualized nature of each of our complexions, we welcome you to reach out for personalized guidance.

"There's no arguing that this little piece is pricey, so before ordering it for myself I read just about every review out there, reading the ingredients listing so many times I actually had it nearly memorized. Even with all the rave reviews I had read, nothing prepared me for how much I would actually fall in love with this dreamy balm.
I honestly use it for everything - as a nightly treatment for dry skin, a redness and blemish reducer, and even as an eye treatment. I even combine it with my concealer daily for the best under eye coverage I've ever had. It's a do-it-all product with a gorgeous, luxurious scent, and every time I use it I can't help but smile.
As for the size and price, I cannot stress enough how LITTLE of this product you need per application - literally just dabbing a fingertip onto the top of this will give you enough for most of your face. I know people say a little goes a long way with a lot of products, but it's never been as true as it is with this product. With daily use, I am nearly certain this will last me well over a year - if not more.
It is a very rich formula, so not only is it important to use a small amount so you don't waste it, but using a smaller portion is also the best way to get the most out of the product. There are very few products of this price point I'd recommend for everyone, but if you're looking to add a truly great piece to your skincare collection I'd suggest this in a heartbeat."

—Morgan

"It's absolutely gorgeous…It leaves my skin calm and moisturized…I swear that it healed and faded a blemish almost overnight."

—Henriette

"I live in a cold country and while my rosacea is very mild it worsens every time I step outside and the wind hits my face. Blue cocoon has been such a wonderful help for the dots that appear on my cheeks, forehead, and chin. It's soothing and makes my skin all smooth. It lasts for very long too, making the price worth it.
I highly recommend the blue cocoon. It's currently the only skin product I use except for my makeup remover."

—Natasha

"I've had eczema since childhood and this season has been particularly rough for me…I'm not exaggerating when I say The Blue Cocoon smoothed away these patches in the course of a weekend... What a true miracle worker it is; I'm kind of speechless."

—Nara

"I wish i didn't love this...But I absolutely do. It's uhhhmaaaazing!!! I suffer from allergies (allergic to dogs AND I have one at home) and eczema, and I live in a humid, tropical country. You can imagine how my skin is atrociously problematic. My face does this really nice trick that it breaks out into red, angry, scaly patches RANDOMLY. So, I've been finding a moisturizer that does not irritate my skin, moisturizes, soothes, calms it down, AND feels and smells luxurious. I've tried everything possible, from Tatcha's Indigo Cream to 14 step Korean skincare routines, nothing works...
UNTIL THIS CAME INTO MY LIFE
How do I live without this delicious piece of heaven? I give thanks that this stuff has been invented. Seriously, this jar has been in my prayers. It smells like rich, decadent chocolate infused with a really soothing almost floral like scent. Melts instantly into liquid orgasm onto your skin. I use it twice daily after spritzing Evian facial water (gotta use it on wet skin) and my skin is finally happy. Finally.
Of course, it has a hefty price tag attached to it. Will I purchase it in a heartbeat though? Absolutely."

—Mary Jane

"Growing up I was one to always have the oily, sensitive acne prone skin. I had always stayed away from any product with "oil" in it.....until now...I am using glycolic acid with a combination of retinol In the evening. I had no idea how dry my skin was going to get, let alone flaky...so I went out on a limb and invested in the blue cocoon after trying other hydrating products that were just not cutting it. The blue cocoon is truly healing my skin in a way no other products have been able to to..my dry retinol skin is now balanced with the blue cocoon. It has been calming, soothing, healing like no product I have ever tried..IF anyone is on the fence about this product even if you are concerned at the price...it truly is an investment in your skin and once you see the results you will never want to be without this amazing product! Love love love!"

—Lauren

"I get tough-to-control, frustrating-to-treat breakouts every month - nothing I've tried in the past decade has been more effective than The Blue Cocoon at calming and healing them."

—Rebekah

"I'm almost 40 and I go through an extensive night time and day time skin care routine. I wanted a good a good all in one product for days that I wanted to give my skin a rest. I like to use the blue cocoon after I use a weekly face mask (I love the May Lindstrom honey mask). I apply it after as a night time treatment. I can't tell you how beautiful my skin looks since using this product. My redness is almost gone. My skin has never felt softer and I have a luminous look to my skin that I never had before. I don't mind the price because it works. Also, you need a tiny amount so this will last a very long time. The smell is amazing, like chocolate and herbs. You just have to smell it for yourself. This is one of my favorite products ever."

—Amanda

"I'll likely be paying my credit card bill with a limb or a first born child to take care of my purchase of the Blue Cocoon. Except, I've received less cream for more money and been disappointed, so imagine my surprise when I came to the conclusion that this little gem from May Lindstrom was worth every penny.
Packaged in that little black jar is one of the most beautiful blue balms that smells, well, odd to me. I love the blue tansy smell, don't get me wrong, but there are so many different little nuances that I can't put my finger on. Before I know it, once it's on my skin it begins to lose its scent and really melt in. I'm usually a little disappointed that I can't smell it anymore.
The effect is immediate. Skin is softer and calmed. Of course, I started using this product when I was sick with one of the nastiest colds of my life so I couldn't be sure if it was my fever breaking or the actual result of the product that made me look like I was glowing. A few days later I determined it was the Blue Cocoon making me look like that.
I was floored. I've had creams that were $165 for an ounce of what was touted to be a miracle. I've had creams that were $100 for the promise of magic. I've had serums for $200+ that promised to reactivate my youth. This is one of the first things I've put on my face that I actually saw do something that didn't require exfoliating acids. This was a balm... a blue balm in a little black jar that made my face feel and look like I hadn't been sick for a week.
So, good job, May Lindstrom. This product is honestly one of the best things I've tried in the many years I've been addicted to beauty. Well worth the money and definitely not the last thing I intend to try from the brand.”

—Todd

"I freakin love it!"

—Mohammed

"I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT THIS!!! This is by far the BEST facial treatment I have ever used for my dry skin and breakouts. I wear it every night before bed and I also apply it whenever I use The Problem Solver mask once a week. My skin has changed DRAMATICALLY! I saw visible results after using it around 3 times. I do not get any more breakouts, my skin is so soft and moisturized, it just looks so healthy! Also, my brownish/red pigmentation spots left from pimples have diminished significantly. I honestly cannot imagine my life without this product anymore. I know it's a bit pricey but it does such a good job for so many different things, that I don't need so many face products in my skin care routine that did barely anything. This is now my holy grail! Do not have any doubts, buy it! You will LOVE it!!!"

—Valeria

"There is NOTHING in my opinion comparable to The Blue Cocoon. It is almost pointless to try. No words for how stunning TBC is. I'm on my third jar! Can't and won't live without it."

—Erika

"Rarely do I feel that any products are worth my review. I, like so many older women, have easily 10 jars of moisturizers, bottles of serums, etc. and have tried everything from the drugstore favorites to the high end. May Lindstrom's Blue Cocoon is the most deeply moisturizing and wonderfully luxurious product I have ever tried. Yes it is pricey, but sometimes you get what you pay for. It is like a cocoon, wrapping your skin in an aromatic silky coat of protection. Let this product transform your skin, just like a caterpillar into a beautiful butterfly!"

—JoAnne

"Worth it. Seriously. Worth every penny. I have super sensitive and dry skin with rosacea with my cheeks.
My skin has never been better since using this product. If you're questioning if this product works, don't doubt it!
It works miracles!"

—Kathy

"…The BC smells like a deep, deep dream of the best and sacred kind. I want to plunge my face into it…"

—Meghan

"The blue cocoon has become a staple in my skincare routine. It does wonders to my skin!!!! It balances, hydrates, soothes, beautifies, enhances, and is just so gorgeously silky, luxurious, and heavenly!!!! I am so so so so so happy I took the plunge and finally bought The Blue Cocoon. Thank you so much for concocting such an amazing product that livens my senses and gives my skin everything it needs. You have a forever customer! Thank you thank you thank you, May!"

—Jaxx

"Allow yourself to splurge on this 1 product, you will not regret it. I can't even begin to say what a miracle this has been for my skin. I never realized how inflammation was affecting my skin until I used the BC! Not to mention the plumping & smoothing effects, I'm 37 so there are fine lines that the BC completely erases! Between the BC & eye cream I wake up looking YEARS younger, this is the best skin of my life. I've read reviews in which people are using this in the morning as well and maybe I'll try that in the winter as I do get a chapped winter red-face from the cold wind & salty air.
Since I am just using this at night, for now, I do notice that by the following evening my skin is asking for more Blue Cocoon lol. I can tell because if I have a little acne from my monthly or rough patches, it starts to show again. I've been using this for a bit more than a month now & I can say it will absolutely not make your skin break out. Maybe that's the result of it being 100% organic. Another bonus is the strength of the Blue Cocoon. Just a teensy amount- a little less than half the size of a pea- is all you need. This jar is definitely going to last me a year with just using it at night. I mean, would you spend $180 to have flawless skin for a year? I'm betting you would."

—Tabitha

"This beautiful solid block of blue balm is the best product I have used in years, it has transformed my very problematic skin. As I hit 40 my skin decided to develop a split personality, it can run through the whole gamut of skin conditions from dry to oily to sensitive, spotty, blotchy, etc in a matter of days. But this beautiful balm has changed all that. The first night I put it on, (not straight after cleansing as suggested but at the end of my skincare regime), it immediately cooled and calmed my skin, leaving it glowing and uber soft. The next morning I was absolutely stunned, my skin looked so smooth, plumped up, dewy and much clearer. Within a week pores were tightened, the redness gone, my skin looked glowing but best of all it was stable, uniform in texture and color and so so soft I found myself stroking my face throughout the day. And yes I got some very strange looks!!! I have used it every night since and my skin is loving it, everyone has noticed, I've been asked what I've had done, a peel, fillers, injectables etc.
I haven't worn any makeup for weeks, as there is no way I would want to cover up what looks like the peachy glowing skin from my twenties. I still use a retinol product for my laughter lines, but the big difference is, with this over the top, I no longer have a reaction to the retinol and for the first time, I can use it every night. On top of all this wonderfulness I have hardly put a dent in the pot, so although it seems expensive it's going to last an age and save me money, as I no longer need a huge range of products to track the ever changing condition of my skin."

—Jo

"…I treated an unfortunate sunburn with blue cocoon two nights in a row. It soothed the inflamed skin, and I saw an almost immediate reduction in pain and redness…I am grateful for this little tub of goodness!"

—Avery

"OMG I did it. I finally purchased May Lindstrom's Blue Cocoon. I saved up and was on a no-buy for a while. I had a sample that was saving my skin during these pollen-heavy times. It's phenomenal for battling skin inflammation, rashes, weird skin conditions that I can't quite name, hives, and acne. Oh my, YES, ACNE. I have been getting hormonal breakouts and this heals them overnight. Anyone else get red blotchy rashes and bumps from pollen?? I never thought I'd spend this much on a product but I can't find anything remotely close."

—Erika

"You know how your skin looks right after you get a hydrating facial? Like deeply hydrated and awake? And you think to yourself OK this is great now but I'm never going to achieve this level of moisture at home. This is the result I got from using the balm. I got my blue cocoon Wednesday morning and today is Friday. the first day I used it, I saw an immediate difference in my skin. It was more hydrated on the surface. The second time I applied it, my skin looked like it was infused from within. I have combo to dry skin now cause of the winter. And this has balanced out my skin so nicely. I see it has smoothed out the look of my pores. I wanted to review it right away but I'm decided to wait and I'm happy I did.
Because each day and night I've used it since I got it, my skin has gotten better and better and I can see the difference. Thursday morning, my skin looked instantly brighter after using it. I forgot to put it on Thursday night and I can see what happens to my skin when I don't use it! It's still hydrated but not the same as when I used it the night before! I'm usually into these kinds of natural oil smells. But not so fond of this smell, it doesn't matter though. This is definitely a ride or die product for me now. Additionally, I got my period and had some breakouts while using it. It didn't really affect the breakouts but it didn't make them worse either after I extracted. And I'm 22, not mature skin. I know that a lot of the reviews said they had mature skin so I wasn't sure about this product. But as an aesthetician and makeup artist myself, I can say this product is gold."

—Avigayil

"Apart from its strangely intoxicating smell and its ability to calm down the skin the thing that surprised me most about this product is its ability to calm down the nervous system and send me to sleep.I think it's worth the price just for that!"

—Michelle

"Welcome to The Blue Cocoon Club! It's quality > quantity with this life saver. I actually do think it's for Everyone - they just don't know it yet!"
